About the front office department
The front office is the face of the hotel. It is the first and last point of contact for every guest. It is one of the most visible departments and offers one of the clearest career progression paths in Thai hospitality — from entry level GSA all the way to General Manager. Strong English, guest service skills and the ability to stay calm under pressure are essential at every level.

💡 Tips to move up faster
- Get Opera certified — it separates you from candidates who just know it on the job
- Improve your English consistently — advanced English opens 5-star doors that mid-level English cannot
- Move properties strategically — a supervisor role at a 5-star property accelerates your career more than staying comfortable
- Ask to shadow the duty manager — visibility with senior management is how promotions happen in Thai hotels
- Learn basic revenue management concepts — FOMs who understand RevPAR and ADR are far more valuable to GMs
✕ Common mistakes that hold people back
- Staying in the same property too long without promotion — loyalty is valued but stagnation is not
- Neglecting English — the gap between intermediate and advanced English is the single biggest career barrier
- Not getting certified in Opera or a PMS system — employers notice
- Avoiding difficult guests instead of handling them — complaint handling skill separates supervisors from managers
- Not building relationships with other department heads — the FOM role requires cross-department collaboration daily
